Not Of This World is a good album but I often overlook it for Never Say Die and More Power To Ya. It does have one of favorite songs (Grave Robber) on it and it has some other gems like this one.
Groping in the darkness searching for the missing switch
Come up empty-handed try to scratch the endless itch
There is only one light that can penetrate your mind
Just one look at Jesus your eyes could leave their scales behind
Can’t you see, you could see?
Don’t you know, you could know?
Blinded eyes can’t see the light
When it’s glowing in the night right in front of you
Blinded eyes can’t see the truth
When it’s written on the wall in plain view
lyrics by Bob Hartman
As we’ve been going through Matthew and Mark I have been struck by how many times people rejected Jesus when they should have been able to see exactly who he was. Jesus even refers back to Isaiah when addressing those who refused to believe him.
11 He replied, “You are permitted to understand the secret of the Kingdom of God. But I use parables for everything I say to outsiders,12 so that the Scriptures might be fulfilled:
‘When they see what I do,
they will learn nothing.
When they hear what I say,
they will not understand.
Otherwise, they will turn to me
and be forgiven.’”
Mark 4:11-12 (NLT)
The sad truth is that some people will never be able to see who Jesus is. Scripture says that he is the Light of the World but the reality is that some choose to remain in darkness. One of the things that Christians have been commanded to do is shine the light into this world. We need to be careful that the things we say and do accurately reflect the light of Christ or else we may end up contributing to the darkness instead of driving it out.
Grace and peace.
